Tea that makes your sleepy

Many people think that drinking tea makes us difficult to sleep. This is a common sense of everyone. However, in this newsletter, I like to introduce the tea that makes me simply sleepy.

In my tea lineups, there are several teas that make me feel very sleepy. If I drink these teas during working hour, I start yawning and losing my concentration. It is irresistible. In fact, for those who deal with high quality tea, it is a common knowledge that certain type of tea makes us sleepy. Some of the tea manufacturers of high quality puerh and Phoenix Dan Cong oolong that I met also knew it very well.

What really is the tea that makes us sleepy?

Having tea that is very rich in minerals makes us sleepy. In both Western and Chinese medicine, it is known that certain type of mineral such as iron could expand the blood vessel. Once the blood vessel is expanded, blood pressure is reduced and blood circulation is drastically improved.

As far as tea is concerned, iron plays the main role. When water is ionized with iron, it increases hydrogen bond and forms higher density. This is also called "Pi Water". Pi water exists in our body. It is the same water in serum or mother's milk. This is the living body water required by our body.

With efficient blood circulation, at first we feel warm, sweating and feel very relax. If we drink more, we feel like a bit floating and finally feel has drunk. It is the phenomenon that we call "tea drunk". Good blood circulation makes our body relaxed and subsequently makes us sleepy, it is just the same like having physical exercise, massage or acupuncture.

Good blood circulation is not only making us sleepy, but also good for skin complexion, enhancement of immune system, organ related disease, constipation and most importantly giving us quality sleep. Most of our organ such as liver and kidney has enormous amount of capillary. Improved blood circulation brings us a lot of health benefits.

Now the most important question is "what kind of tea contains super high mineral?".

The answer is "super high quality tea".

Quality tea gives a very thick aftertaste and long lasting flavor. It is also due to the effect of minerals especially iron. When I drink these teas, I feel very thick taste, and its lingering sweetness and flavor spreads deep down my throat.

Good teas are very rich in iron and each cell is very small size. It is because of under the harsh growing environment, these teas spend much longer time to grow. Moreover it is grown without fertilizer.
Unfortunately these teas are very expensive in China and Taiwan indeed. That is why very less people has ever experienced "sleepy effect". I listed typical sleepy tea (high mineral tea) as follows:

1. Phoenix Oolong Dong Fang Hong upwards
2. Bu Lang Shan Raw Puerh
3. Taiping Houkui Special Tribute
4. Tsukigase Zairai Sencha

Surprisingly Tsukigase Zairai Sencha is not the expensive tea. The reason is Japan agricultural association has set their own quality criteria. In Japan, tea with very high amino acid content as well as tea harvested earlier gets higher price. Due to this odd quality criteria, farmer apply plenty of nitrogen based fertilizer and try to harvest tea as early as they can. With more fertilizer, farmers are expecting more output. Agricultural association also feel happy since they can sell more fertilizer. However these fast growing teas contain less mineral, and taste becomes very thin and flat.

Due to the above odd quality criteria, the real good tea such as Tsukigase Zarai Sencha gains no attention in tea auction. Tsukigase Zairai needs unimaginably long time to grow. The first flush of this tea is only available in June, while most of green tea produced in Japan completed in April. Since this tea spends extra two months' time to grow, tea leaf has numerous numbers of tiny cells and it contains much larger amount of polyphenol (antioxidant) to hold iron inside its molecule.

川根在来煎茶

This tea has less distinctive flavor since farmer has an ordinary skill in process. However the material's quality is extremely outstanding. That is why I serve this tea to customers I often receive completely different feedback. Some customers feel this is an extremely great tea yet some other customers feel this tea is nothing special. However all customers who drinks this tea more than 200ml they start feeling very warm, their face turn very red just like drinking alcohol and eventually most of them feel very sleepy. The effect is even more obvious with children. Young people originally have better blood circulation. So when they drink this tea, instantly they feel sleepy.

However please do not drink this tea just before going to sleep. You may have the same effect as having exercise just before going to sleep. It is adequate to drink this tea perhaps after dinner or 2-3 hours before going to sleep.
