Taihu
Information about Bi Luo Chun’s Production Area
Bi Luo Chun is produced around Taihu (Tai Lake), mainly in Dongting Shan, Jiangsu Province. This region has a warm and humid climate and fertile soil, making it ideal for tea cultivation. Dongting Shan is divided into East Dongting Shan and West Dongting Shan. East Dongting Shan is particularly famous for its high-quality Bi Luo Chun. Also known as “Flower and Fruit Mountain,” Our Bi Luo Chun is sourced from East Dongting Shan.
The Advantages of East Dongting Shan
The climate of East Dongting Shan has frequent fog in early spring, which imparts a unique fragrance and flavor to the tea leaves. The frequent fog in East Dongting Shan helps to moderate daytime temperatures by blocking sunlight, while the ground cools rapidly at night, creating a significant temperature difference. This temperature fluctuation is beneficial for the quality formation of crops, including tea leaves. Additionally, the soil in East Dongting Shan is rich in iron, which contributes to the lingering aftertaste of the tea.
Long-Lasting Tea Leaves Grown Without Fertilizers
The tea leaves of Bi Luo Chun are picked when the young buds begin to appear in early spring. This tea is characterized by its curled shape and fine white hairs. The leaves are green, slender, and curled into spirals, which is why it is called “Bi Luo Chun” (Green Spiral Spring). The aroma is sweet like flowers, and the taste is refreshing with a subtle citrus-like fruitiness.
We source our tea from farms that grow their tea without fertilizers and pesticides. The slow growth of the tea leaves due to fertilizer-free cultivation results in higher cell density, giving the tea a rich, long-lasting aftertaste.
Manufacturing Process
The manufacturing process of the tea leaves is very delicate. Freshly hand-picked tea leaves are carefully hand-rolled and then dried at a low temperature of 60-70°C. This process creates the distinctive aroma and flavor of Bi Luo Chun. Especially those produced in East Dongting Shan are highly appreciated for their quality and flavor, loved by many tea enthusiasts.
